We really tried…

Last week was the Autumn Moon Festival, and annual holiday in China. It is characterized by watching the full moon, hanging lanterns, and eating moon cakes. It dates back 3,000 years to moon worship.

Last Sunday, we had dinner at the table and then had our little celebration. We read the origin of the Autumn Moon Festival, the legend of Chang’E, and the origin of the mooncake. Then…

We opened up the mooncakes. This was our first time ordering mooncakes and trying them. They came from Chinatown in San Francisco. I ordered a variety of flavors, but ended up with only one flavor. White lotus paste. Is your mouth watering?

Slow down, buddy.

Randy gave us each a slice. Hmmm…the inside looked like chocolate which I think made it taste worse. ‘Cause that was NOT chocolate.

Lainey had 2 slices. I mean, she crammed them in her mouth and wanted more. I just don’t understand that girl. Her favorite thing to eat lately is celery. With ranch dressing. It’s amazing having a child eat anything!

We tried mooncakes. Maybe next year I’ll try and find a recipe that I can tweak a bit? In the meantime, we decided to send in a replacement for the mooncakes.

Now, THAT’S chocolate.

Too halirious! I am NOT a mooncake…lotus paste kinda girl myself, but how fun that you tried! I’ll have to remember the MoonPies idea. A girlfriend and I are going to have a very late celebration, and will do that. We found a recipe for easy…super American…moon cake cookies too.

You are such a great Mom!

I don’t even like Moonpies (I know that is un-American, but I can’t help it) so the Moon cakes would probably NOT be one of my favorite things either. Randy really doesn’t like chocolate that much (don’t know where that comes from), but Lainey loves almost everything. You are a great Mom to do all these special things for your family !! My son is indeed blessed.

You need to get some good old Pennsylvania Dutch “Whoopie Pies”. Even yummier than moon pies!

I prefer pumpkin pie myself…especially this time of year!!! The moon cakes don’t sound too appealing, but yet, it really doesn’t surprise me that Lainey loved them!! Her taste buds are strange to say the least! Now, celery with ranch dressing sounds good to me…I used to eat celery all the time, but now I can’t. Enjoy them, Lainey Q.!!!!
