Christmas re-wind

It’s confession time…

I was reminded today that I over-looked posting one of our Christmas celebrations. I think I missed doing it because there aren’t many pictures of that day.

I did so well in the beginning…taking our camera to everything even remotely “Christmasy”. Then, somewhere along the way, I just wanted to enjoy the moments without looking through the view-finder. Which is why I have ZERO pictures of our get-together with Randy’s extended family last Thursday, and my extended family today.

I’m sure others will share their pictures with me. But if they don’t, I’ll just think back to the moments…Randy and Tony trying to out-do each other with “when we were kids” stories; the conversation I had with my sweet Grandmom as we sat together on the couch; reminiscing with my cousin about a special Christmas present given years ago.

Back to the original problem…I never wrote about my parents coming here to spend Christmas Eve with us. There aren’t many pictures of that day (guess I was enjoying myself…). But, in the spirit of fairness (heh), here goes:

Given we were going to be a bit rushed on Christmas Day, my parents decided to come spend Christmas Eve with us. I roasted a turkey breast and we had yummy sandwiches and fixings for lunch. Afterwards, we passed out presents…

The kids took turns opening first…the boys got a slew of new shirts.

We all loved this sign for Marley – Abbey keeps threatening to steal it.

Can you tell what Dylan opened? A MONSTER truck. This is his best monster face. Payton joined in as well.

She was one happy camper…she forgot totally that she had asked for a HK backpack (to replace her Dora backpack which she now can’t stand!).

Randy got a really cool Steelers shirt. Which he immediately had to smell (have I ever mentioned he LOVES the smell of new clothes??)

Abbey got some shirts, which she loved…she really wanted clothes this year! Sadly, there are no pictures of her. Or me, for that matter. Like I said, I wasn’t focused on the pictures, people!

Granma and Granpa also gifted the big kids with some cold, hard CASH which they quickly pocketed. I know Marley plans to buy some new English riding boots. Not sure what the others have planned. I think Abbey has already spent some of hers on…yep, shirts.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention something on this post, but I’ll take my chances and hit the “publish” button. We really enjoyed having my parents over and hope we can do the same thing next year. Maybe I’ll take more pictures? Or, maybe not.

This is our New Years’ gift from you….THANK YOU!!! Got to admit, this post makes me feel much better, and you did a great job, as usual!!

Don’t worry, I have some shots of you and Abbey holding up some gifts…also everyone else!

I thought the line about talking with Grandmom on the couch and your cousin about that “special Christmas gift” was heart-warming….and I know the special gift you’re talking about and which cousin!!! That was sweet and brought tears to my eyes remembering you, Scott & Stephanie during past Christmases….you guys were so cute when you got special gifts from Uncle Mike that year…your yellow bean bag chair!!!! Where has the time gone??

We love you all and enjoyed you guys being here for our family reunion at our house with everyone else…we had such a GOOD time!!! I certainly will order prints for you of Christmas Eve + our family reunion!! PS I’d love a print of your dad & me…the 1st photo here…I like it!!

Now on to 2012…how did we get here SO FAST???!!!

I love the picture of your parents. You all were on the go quite a bit during Christmas so I guess we will have to “cut you some slack.” Randy is so funny in smelling his shirts. I think I may have to give him one next year that either smells like “poop” or French perfume (cheap).

I don’t know who enjoys the “when we were kids” stories the most my sons or my grandkids. I think the grands could sit for hours and listen to them. Oh…. with the telling each time, the stories get bigger, better, worse and always funnier.

I like Marley’s sign too. Where did that come from??

As for pictures… Linda probably took the most the other night. I get too busy talking and forget to take pictures.

Not to add to your stress, but no body took pictures at our house on Christmas night. Ron had set up the tri-pod and everything. I guess it got to crazy for any of us to think pictures. Oh well.

Seems your extended family has made it a competition to get photos and write-ups about them on your blog. Remember the saying,”you can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you can’t please all the people all the time.” And maybe with family one NEVER knows. Just smile and nod!
I’ve enjoyed checking in on the goings on on your blog. I’m not exactly sure how I found you in the first place but sure I clicked over from another blog that has adopted a child. You
certainly work hard and have a wonderful family to show for all your labors of love.
    Happy 2012!
