Things we’re learning about Lainey…
* She seems to like us evenly, not preferring one over the other, at this point.
* She eats as much as we give her and gets upset when the meal is over.
* We haven’t found a food that she doesn’t like yet…her staples are rice, congee (picture a watery rice soup), and egg custard. We found out today that she loves banana and bread.
* If we give her a cracker to eat, she savors it…taking as long as possible and as many bites as possible to make it last. She will eat the cracker faster if she sees more food is coming.
* She doesn’t like the stroller, but does fine in the Ergo carrier…though, she leans away from me rather than hugging towards me.Â
* Her favorite toys are harder objects…the musical cell phone, stacking cups, and (still) her hairbrush. She wants nothing to do with stuffed animals or blankets.
* She has a temper. If something happens that she doesn’t like (for instance, if you take something out of her hand), she will cry and either throw the thing she may be holding and/or arch her back. We can only imagine the frustration she must be feeling, with her world turned upside down.
* When she gets upset, she makes a kind of hum or sigh over and over…she’s obviously learned to do this in order to try and comfort herself when there was no one else around to do it. Again, sad.
* She loves TV. We’ve shown her a couple of Baby Einstein DVDs from Randy’s Ipod and she’s mesmerized. Yep, she’ll fit right in.
* She sticks her tongue out quite a bit…just like her big brother Ethan does when he plays basketball ;)
More later, after Randy downloads the rest of the days pictures.

She looks happier and happier every time you guys post. I am sure she will do just fine when she gets to meet her sisters and brothers. We will be glad when we get to meet her also. A little darling.

The tidbits on Lainey is great. It is giving us all a chance to get to know more about her on questions we all wonder about… you know – the personal stuff. I love the fact that she is taking to both of you. She is smart, too because she knows she can trust both of you. Yea, that Lainey isn’t a picky eater. Love how she savors a cracker, but will chow down if there is more. Broke my heart about how she hums or sighs when upset. She will learn quickly that she can trust you to handle this for her with love. I agree with Kathy… Lainey is a little darling and I can’t wait to meet her and hug her. Never has one little girl had so many people loving her before they even get to be with her.

I just stumbled onto your website. We share many things, 5 kids, 1 daughter from China, our faith, homeschooling and Jacksonville! Lainey is beautiful and I am thrilled for your family though we have never met.
I will be praying her grief is minimal and the rest of your trip is glorious.

Hi~ I was reading this when I was in the office with Ami and Hope, so we laughed at her picture sticking out her tongue and then read all of the amazing things about her already! It’s only been 2 days and you already know so much about her! I hope she gradually learns to like the stroller, as your neighborhood is perfect to take her for walks! I’ll bet Abbey & Marley can’t believe that she does not like stuffed animals (!) and blankets!! It looks like she’s more and more comfortable around you both and we hope and pray it’s that way at home with her 2 sisters and 2 brothers…and Jack! Your dad will be picking the kids up tomorrow around 1:30 from Ron & Kathy’s. I imagine by now, they’re ready to head for home on Thursday morning!! After we get them settled back in Jax, it won’t be too long before we’ll be getting anxious to see you guys and welcome Lainey home!!! Love to all, Mom & Dad

So beautiful. I can’t wait to see those gorgeous eyes when the face is smiling. It took Abbey 4 days to actually smile a recognition smile. I’ll never forget it. I can’t wait to see Lainey’s face in a few days, it will be like night and day. We’re still praying for you. Enjoy this time with just you three!
Love and Prayers,
Glenda
