One of her fav activities…having the kids push her around the tile floor in the famous blue laundry basket. Why is it famous, you ask? We have pictures of the other kids as babies sitting in it…one, with the triplets in it at one time :)
Lainey completed day 5 of her cleft palate surgery recovery today…9 more days of no-nos. Not that I’m counting. And, honestly, Lainey doesn’t seemed phased by them at all. I anticipated all sorts of crying, whining, and down right fit-throwing with them. When we dress her in the morning and have to take them off, she’s fine to put them right back on, even offering her arms to me.
We need to raise the counters up a little…
Feedings have been pretty easy, too. We either use a disposable cup or syringes with a short bit of rubber tubing at the end. Everything is pureed very smoothly, to a “pouring paint” consistency. Nothing like mac n’ cheese with chicken and veggies that will squirt through a syringe. Yum. She’s loving it. Her favorites have been mashed potatoes and gravy and cream of chicken soup. Tomorrow, we can be a little more adventurous, going to “soft foods”…things like scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, over-done pasta, etc. Things that require very little chewing.
Another first; painted toes! She’s helping me blow them dry. She can now blow air through her mouth! Look out, birthday candles!!
Her sleeping has been slightly disturbed with her recovery…she didn’t nap AT ALL yesterday, just played in her crib for 2 hours. Today was better, thankfully! She’s woken up a couple of times during the night, but has gone back to sleep. We’re still waking her to give her Motrin around 3am and she’s been much happier in the morning. We’ll wean her from it over the next few days. Others have told us that they kept their kids on pain meds for the first week.
So, we’re pretty much getting back into life as normal. The big kids have a little more than a week left of “full school” (all subjects), then they have their testing a week from Friday. After that, we’ll keep plugging along with math and grammar through the summer, just a few days a week. We’re all feeling the pull of summer and those 4 July birthdays around the corner! Three 10 year olds, and one 2 year old! I better stock up on candles…

I’m so glad Lainey’s recovering well. I didn’t even think about birthday candles – I’m so glad Micah’s surgery will be complete before his birthday. Love the pedicure pic.

Loved the updates (as I always do). Yes Lainey will be able to blow out her candles now. The picture of her blowing her toenails is great !! It is hard to tell who is having the most fun with the laundry basket… Lainey or Marley???
Love to you all. Thank God that Lainey has done so great through this surgery.

I am so thankful to hear that Lainey is doing so well. She looks great! I read back through your last entries. For some reason, I don’t have the time I used to have……

Praise God that Lainey is doing well with the no-nos! Don’t ask my why, but I teared up when I read the part where “she can blow air through her mouth…” I think it made me realize how so easily we take for granted things like that….Ok, I am tearing up again… I also think painting her toenails is sweet! That is the one thing I’ve been SO looking forward to having a girl to do that with. Blessings on the next 9 days and more!!

Wow, that blue basket has been thru 5 kids now… and it’s still lookin’ good! I think Lainey has surprised us all with her “no no’s”!! We thought it was going to be 2 very long weeks of her having to put up with them fighting it all the way, and it’s amazing how she’s dealing with it…”no big deal”! How were the scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes? Bet she loved them!!
We love the picture of her painted tootsie toes!! And I also got emotional when I realized that she can now blow with her mouth and could not before the surgery. I wonder how many times her tongue has gone up to the roof of her mouth and felt strange to her with no opening?! We’re so glad the surgery is behind you guys now!!
School is almost out…time for pool, beach, boat, etc.!! It’s just a little over a month before we come down to celebrate 4 birthdays! Can’t wait!! Give us some suggestions for Lainey’s gift…we already know what the trips gifts will be. Loads of love from Granma and Granpa!!

Donna! I finally got WordPress to let me in!! Can you believe it? Now I’m all excited and have a bazillion comments to leave you.
First off, I’m SO glad to see Lainey looking so happy just a few days after her surgery. You guys must be so relieved. I was also so very touched to see that she took her blankey to the hospital with her.
I just love that picture of her & Randy holding hands at the beach. It’s a classic.
Last but not least, I cannot believe the transformation over three months! She just looks like a different little girl. So healthy, happy, bright and pretty.
We’re going to be in NC in August. I’ll email you with details on the chance you guys will be there too.
