A poem about child labor in the 19th century – by Abbey
I hear creaking, sighing,
I see fingers flying.
There is smoke and fire,
and faces that are tired.
With all of this, I dread
That I will never go to bed.
And even though my wages are few,
I still have hope for something new.
“The World Gone Upside Down” – by Payton
The grass just ate the cow,
I don’t know how.
A man is climbing a tree
while a squirrel is very busy
doing his taxes,
signing those faxes,
doing it very quickly.
A sad man gives a smile,
a happy man gives a frown,
it’s the world turned upside down!
I had more to say / pictures to post, but my WordPress isn’t in the mood to cooperate…grrrrr. I’ll see if my resident computer whiz (a.k.a Randy) can figure it out :(

WHAT TALENT!!! These poems are very VERY good!! Could this possibly be inherited from Gram??? It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s where Abbey & Payton get their “poem talent” from!!

WOW! These poems are VERY GOOD!
Abbey’s is full of emotion–she “gets” it. That, in itself, is huge.
Payton’s is very creative. Good thinking process!

Abbey’s poem reminds me of Katie’s at the same age. She is now headed to college to major in journalism. Beautiful…

First, thanks to Peggy for the compliment about the kids taking after me.
I loved reading the poems Abbey and Payton wrote. Both so very different, but so insightful.
They both write similar to my way of using rhyme rather than “free form” (which is the hardest for me to write). When I write a poem it just comes out in rhyme ??
Maybe one of my grands will become a writer one day. I have always wished I could be a writer, but have a problem getting the things in my head down on paper.
(Don’t tell the kids this but the other problem I have is I HATE to punctuate anything !!! That may be why most of my poems are without punctuation. LOL
Hope they write more soon….
