So, a quick run-down on the last few days.Â
On Thursday, we drove about 2 1/2hrs to a Christmas get-together with Randy’s family…lots of fun, Dylan met tons of extended family members and did great. We dropped 3 of the kids off at their cousin’s house to stay till we could pick them up today.Â
Today, we were scrambling to get ready for another 2 1/2hr Christmas get-together trip – this time with my extended family. The little kids were playing on and around the stairs, I was packing a bag of things we’d need for the trip. I heard Dylan jump and cry out a little, Randy grabbed him up to give him hugs…and, then took off his pants to check out his leg.Â
No, it’s not supposed to look like that. And, for some strange reason (I think we were both clinging to denial), we decided that I should go ahead and drive towards our planned destination while he took Dylan to the ER to be checked out. He’d drive over as soon as they were done.Â
About 1 hour into my drive, Randy calls to say Dylan has a complete break of the femur in his little leg, they’re transferring him via ambulance to a children’s hospital, and he’ll most likely need surgery to set the leg. I make an immediate u-turn to drive back home.Â
Arriving at the hospital, I’m thankful to learn that they don’t need to do surgery, and can set the leg during the casting process…we choose red and he’s wrapped from the bottom of his little leg (with a hole at the bottom), up to his hip, and then around his waist and up to his chest all around.Â
I stay until 9:30, then drive back home to be with the other kids – Randy and his dad, (who drove the other kids back home for us), will be staying with Dylan through the night.Â
He’ll be in the cast for 4-5 weeks.Â
I realize this isn’t life-shattering, very far from it. But, life sure can change on a dime.

Donna,I am so sorry to hear about Dylan. We wish him a speedy recovery. Yes it is amazing how life can change on a dime. I am sure this won’t hold Dylan back from doing what he wants.Hugs & Kisses to Dylan.

I woke up several times during the night and thought of Dylan…hoping and praying that he’s ok. There are lots of prayers and prayer requests for him and we’re thinking about him and the rest of you guys and praying that things will settle down and he can get through these weeks without much trouble. Did you ever find anyone who speaks Chinese Mandarin so they can explain to him what has happened and what the cast is for and that you guys will take care of him and give him lots of love while he recuperates. We’ll continue the prayers…in the meantime, give him lots of kisses from all of here, who really missed him (and the rest of you) at our Christmas get-together yesterday. Love you all…Mom & Dad (Granma & Granpa)

Oh, poor little guy. I’ve heard that a broken femur is pretty painful. I’m sure you’ll love him through the pain.
Praying for quick healing!

Donna, I’ve been keeping up via FB (& Ann) — so sorry this has happened to our little D-man! But I’m glad to know he’s home again with all of you. It’ll take more than this to slow down the adorable speed-demon I met on Thursday night, right? I will continue to pray that he heals quickly, and that the pain is not too terrible for him. Love to you all, Linda Lee

I will call in the morning to see how Dylan (and you all) made it through the night. There was a lot for you to “work through” as to how to handle everything with Dylan’s cast, but I am confidant that you and Randy can figure it all out.
Many people are praying for all of you and praying that Dylan’s pain will quickly cease. My heart and my prayers are constantly with all of you, too.
Remember…. if you need me just call and I will be there very quickly.
love you all and give Dylan a gentle hug from his Gram.
