Rambling

Author: donna  |  Category: Family

This won’t be the sort of post with a focused topic and nice, clean ending.  I think I’ll ramble a bit.  This season of my life feels like it’s all over the place, so why not my post?  I’m glad you agree.

Randy was out of town this week from Monday afternoon through (hopefully) about an hour from now.  Yes, he comes home tonight.  Whenever he’s out of town, I always think of single moms, who rarely get a break.  Or those moms with husbands who travel A LOT, or have husbands serving overseas.  I know for sure that God must give those women a special helping of strength and patience.

We managed to get through another school week with most everything done, Abbey finished her class portion of Drivers Ed (drive time sometime in the summer), we bought some supplies for our “Steelers win another super bowl” party, and I marked a few things off of my ever-growing to-do list.  Progress is progress.

Oh, I finished “Choosing to See” by Mary Beth Chapman.  Cried, held back tears, and sat in awe at her honest account of the grieving that her family has been through.  If you’ve not read it yet, run to the bookstore and get it.

I’ve started 2 other books.  “Organized Simplicity” by Tsh Oxenreider is giving me the urge to purge everything in my house that I don’t find purposeful or absolutely love.  I told Randy he fits both categories so he’s happy.  I truly want to live more simply, and this book promises to show me how to do that.  I’m hopeful.  I also started “Radical” by David Platt.   I’m only in the 2nd chapter and it’s already mind blowing.  Thanks to my handy dandy new e-reader, I’m flipping back and forth with these two…gotta love that.

Dylan is eating much better these days, but he’s still not a great eater.  We realized tonight he LOVES pickles.  Oh, great.  Just the smell of pickles makes me wretch.  And, he’s sucking on the thing like it’s a candy.

Only my husband would spend his evening throwing fish crackers at everyone, aiming for mouths.  Ending in me being pelted by a barrage of crackers.

The littles, as I’ve come to lazily call them, showing off their new NCSU shirts.  Our wonderful friend, Donna Judd, sent these to Lainey and Dylan this week.  Our family and Donna go WAY back.  I met her at church, right before becoming pregnant with the triplets.  Soon after they were born, she told me she wanted to help me out once a week.  She came each week, usually carrying a grocery bag full of cereals and other stuff the kids loved.  Then, she told me to go nap or run errands…whatever I wanted to do.  It was absolutely magical.  She did this for THREE years.  A true blessing!

Anyway, she saw that Dylan loved his squeaky shoes from China and told me about her friends from church that have their own squeaky shoe company.  I browsed the shoes and was considering buying a pair, when Donna told me her friend wanted to send Dylan a pair free of charge.  Wow!  We chose the NCSU ones, of course :)

See the emblem on the top?  He loves them!  The website is www.squeakmeshoes.com  Go check them out!

Anyone ever try the new almond snickers?  I have one in my purse.  Think I might try it tonight.

I’m sitting here blogging when I should be putting Dylan and Lainey to bed.  He’s beside me whining right now…gotta run :)

So, more Steelers stuff, huh? I know you guys are gonna have a GREAT “Sooooper Bowl” party on Sunday…and I have a feeling we’ll see fun on your blog on Monday…! I’d like to get the book you mentioned “Choosing to See”. I haven’t read a good book that I can really “get into” in a long time!

I think you and I like to find ways to get organized…and like to buy bins, etc. to do that! Any hints from your “organized” book would be helpful whenever you have time?? (I can wait!) LOL

Dylan…pickles?? Ooooh, yuk!! He is like his older sister, Abbey. They smell sour to me!

Oh yeah, I can just see Randy tossing the gold fish crackers in the kids’ mouths…he and they love it!!

Of all the blessings you had when the trips were born, I can honestly say that Donna Judd was at the top of the list!! What a thoughtful person she was and STILL is!!! Hi Donna!!!

I haven’t heard of the almond Snickers, but have heard of the peanut butter ones…would like to try them!! (What do you think, Marley Girl?!!) LOL Glad Randy is home and you’re a complete (happy!!!) family again!!! Love u all & GO STEELERS!!!!

The pictures of Dylan and Dylan w/ Lainey are just toooooooo cute. And I love the NCSU shirts and shoes (even though NCSU hasn’t given us a lot to be happy about lately).

I remember Donna Judd very much and how wonderful she was to you and Randy and the kids. She was one of God’s special angels just sent for you at a time when you were in “great” need. There aren’t many people that would volunteer to babysit a 2 year old and 3 newborns. So “thank you Donna J. for saving my daughter-in-law’s sanity.”

I have been “purging” around my house for weeks now and have it down to the guest bedroom and that closet/drawers. I just finished my office/music room/movie room/hobby room/sewing room. It has taken me 2 days, 4 huge bags of trash and 3 huge bags of Goodwill donation stuff. I would have gotten rid of more, but Paul is VERY protective of his cassettes, DVDs, electronic stuff, wires, plugs, etc. so I at least got that stuff organized.

What is it about women that puts it into their hearts and heads that makes us have the urges to CLEAN? Not the dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping kind of cleaning, but the take everything out of the closet and then go through it and put back half (hopefully) kind of cleaning.

I will take some of those tips from that book too !!

As for Randy throwing the crackers…. I have yet to see ANYTHING that wasn’t nailed down that Randy wouldn’t throw somehow to somebody.

I have the same thoughts when David’s out of town! I often wonder how in the world my mom did it with me and my brothers and all of our activities. Hard work for sure!

Kind of weird, but we are totally on the same page with books! I read choosing to see on our China trip and started Radical a few weeks ago. I’m on Ch 5…it will continue to rock your world! Organized Simplicity sounds like a must read as well! Moving twice in two years has made me clean out a lot of stuff but it’s amazing how quickly the “stuff” accumulates!

Sorry about the Steelers! Hope you guys had fun at your party anyway!

Sure is a small world, isn’t? One of my great friends, Shannon, is the sister and daughter of the folks that started squeak me shoes. Abbey and Elijah modeled for the catalog last year. They are a wonderful family. Shannon and her husband brought home their daughter just before we got Abbey.
I bet Dylan likes his squeaks,(although I think that he would like UNC ones better) jk!!
