How many times have we heard that phrase? At least once a day, for the last…oh…5 months maybe? “I want two leg walk”
The day finally came.
His first look. Apprehensive? He was worried it might hurt. The prosthetic tech, Crissy, is fantastic. She looks a little creepy here, but she was working hard to ease his worry.
A smile…she was joking about his smelly foot. The boy does have a stinky foot.
Explaining about the insert that goes on before the leg. The little brown part helps the socket of the leg to slide on easily. And the insert gives the leg socket some cushion.
And, it’s on. He looks a little unsure!
Time to bear weight and see how it feels. She asked him a lot “does anything feel funny, etc.” to make sure the socket wasn’t hurting him anywhere.
After this shot, she decided that the socket came up too high on his leg (and could potentially wear roughly on his skin, so she trimmed it)
Being silly while waiting for the socket trimming!
Lainey shows Dylan some love!
This shot shows how the leg is attached. The sock is pulled up and goes around his waist. Then, he’ll slide the leg on, kinda like a pair of pants. And then velcro the belt around his waist. Should make going to the potty interesting…pants, leg, sock, unders – unders, sock, leg, pants!
First step!
He had to be shown how to take steps (duh, he’s never done it before!)
This shot totally makes me tear up.
As the tech was watching, she realized that the socket was a bit loose. She took it back to the shop and added some extra padding inside to make it more snug.
Adjustments made, time for another spin in the hallways.
He was doing so well by this time, his walking looked more like walking. Initially, he just wasn’t sure what to do with that thing attached to his short leg!
Great job, little man!
A close up. The pattern (camo with lizards!) that we took with us will cover the whole socket. The white part here will be taken off, it’s kind of like a temporary cast material. It was just to give support until they could laminate the whole socket with the pattern. The cord will be attached to the front of the socket. When we pull the cord, the locked knee will unlock, allowing his leg to bend when he sits down. It clicks back into a straight position. The rod will remain exposed…no covering. I love that it’s a cool red and purple!
Now, we wait for it to arrive in the mail. They said they’d try hard to get it to him by his birthday on July 4th, but they stay busy and are short a tech right now. We’ll just be happy to get it when it gets here!
And, what did Dylan ask tonight as I dressed him for bed?
“Mama, I want two leg walk”

Yeah for the two leg walk. Thanks for showing this momma all you have gone through. It really has helped us understand our future with our little guy we are adopting – I can’t wait til he is up and walking too!

Dylan DID walk 2 legs with 2 feet and 2 shoes !! I printed the picture off of facebook showing him with his new leg and Randy behind him. I just keep looking at it and I seem to cry every time. I thank God and then I thank God for you and Randy for going to get my awesome grandson and giving him this marvelous chance in life.
To see him standing up and walking with you all is a miracle. I love the picture of you and Dylan joking and him being silly is great, but the one of Lainey loving on Dylan is the one that shows me just how great God’s plans were in blessing us with these two wonderful children.
I’m not surprised that Dylan told you tonight that he wanted to “2 leg walk” as I was wondering if he would be okay coming home without his new leg. My prayers are that you all will get it for him quickly.
My heart overflows with thankfulness, blessings and love.

Love the smile on his face as he walks with his new leg. Will it always wrap around his waist? Will they have to make a totally new prosthesis once he grows
he will be running before too long! Can’t wait to see those pictures!

I love the look on Marley’s and Lainey’s faces the 1st time they see Dylan’s amazing new leg!! It’s such a wonderful thing that his siblings are going thru this experience with him and standing by him with such love. My 2 fav pics are Dylan standing by himself with Randy behind him…and Lainey & Dylan sharing such a special hug.
When we first saw Dylan’s photo and counted the days till he was officially a “Clark”, this day seemed so far off, and now that it’s finally here, it’s totally awesome, and as I type this, I am tearing up. This adorable little guy is so fortunate to have been adopted by you guys and now he has such a positive future ahead of him!! The pictures say a million words, especially the grin on Dylan’s face. That just makes me feel GREAT!!!! Thanks for making our weekend…and Dylan, we are soooo proud of you, and so thankful to Shriner’s, Mommy & Daddy & especially God for making this possible. Love you ~

Vicky –
As Dylan grows, he will have to continue to get fitted with new legs that will fit, and amazingly the Shriners will continue to do that for us at no cost. They are truly amazing.
And the belt will no longer be necessary once he is older and they can fit him with a “snugger” prosthesis. I think at this age they prefer to use the belt and make it a bit easier to take the leg on and off as needed.
It was a very cool thing to see for sure.
