They look ready for this, right?
Maybe not.
Too bad, kids, the time has come to help our orthodontist put his own kids through college.
Braces for all 3 – at one time. Honestly, we’re getting a great deal. Having triplets has had it’s perks. Free diapers when they were little…discounts on braces now. Plus, they were having a February promotion of a big chunk of money off EACH set of braces. EACH! So, we jumped in.
We invaded the place bright and early. Since it was going to take HOURS of waiting in a boring waiting room, my friend Kelley graciously agreed to take Lainey and Dylan to the mall across the street.
I was equipped with my iphone, bible app, and journal. And, my kindle. Ocassionally, I glanced up at an incredibly old re-run of Rosanne. Did we ever really think that was funny?
The first patient finally showed up…
And, the second…
Finally, Ethan…
Total time at the orthodontist? 3+ hours. Total time they’ll be in braces? 22-26 months. Each.
Today is Day 2, and they’re definitely feeling better than they did Day 1. Ibuprofen is still their friend, and the food is still soft. (though, they did wrestle with pizza today at co-op, since the teacher surprised them with it!) The first week is the hardest.
A friend reminded me of something the other day…when Marley, Payton, and Ethan were little, I decided I’d get myself braces. I knew, down the road, that we’d be faced with putting braces on their sweet, tiny faces, so I figured I’d go ahead and take care of myself. Looks like “down the road” has arrived!

Wow! Braces x 3! I just can’t imagine! You are a remarkable mom!

Unbelievable !! That about says it all. Knowing how much my dentist is charging me for just basics… I don’t even want to imagine what “Braces x 3” would be. One week it’s none of the kids have cavities and the next it’s all 3 in braces. WOW… having triplets is just “triple the fun.”
Tell them that Gram says they all still look amazing !
Oh… and you do have a beautiful smile, too.

Actually, I’ve been wondering when this “Braces Boom” would take place. So glad you’re getting a February Promotion + a bundle deal!!! I’m sure these are helping in the financial portion of it!!! This is Payton’s 2nd time around…so he knew what to expect. Hoping and will say prayers that the 1st week, with help from good ‘ole Ibuprofen goes smoothly for them!!! I think the ortho bands make them look more intelligent..! How does Randy get out of the “braces situation” so easily? He’s the only one who does not…or has not had to wear them!! Is it the Mountain Dew?!!! HA!!!
If I could go back when I was their age, I would have wanted my parents to put braces on my teeth…but it certainly was NOT very popular then. And when I graduated and went out to work, it also wasn’t a cool thing for young adults to wear them. And at my age now, it’s not even thought about!! :) So, I envy them for being able to have beautiful straight teeth in the future! All you guys have to do is just look at Abbey’s smile…and you’ll know you are doing the right thing…SMILE!!! :)

Oh, and also look at your Mom’s smile after wearing the ortho bands…she and Abbey prove that it’s definitely all worth the time and trouble!!!!
