Caught this guy hanging out on my coneflowers the other day…love his color. Â Thankfully, he wasn’t eating the flowers.
Took this from the back deck. Â The field gets cut one day, then a day or so later they bring in this funny tractor attachment that stirs it all up so it dries. Â Another tractor comes next to push it into rows. Â Finally, it’s baling day! Â I love watching all this, if you can’t tell.
We had a few sunflowers this year, including this monster one (see the smaller ones beside?). Â We harvested some of the seeds for next year, and will share the rest with the birds.
Think we need an extension ladder? Â We’ve been needing to clean the spider webs from around the top windows for a while. Â Today, Randy got creative with the tallest ladder we have, an extension pole, and a duster head. Â Yes, it made me nervous to watch him. Â Wondering about the tire? Â We might use it for a tire swing.
Randy finished the mowing today. Â This is down by our shop building, with the area in front where we have bonfires. Â With as much land as we have, it can sometimes take a couple of days to get all the mowing done. Â The boys usually help with another rider and a push mower, but they ditched him today for a day at an amusement park in Charlotte.
Walking back up towards the house. Â We desperately need to add more gravel to our driveway. Â And, see the very overgrown garden on the right?
And, there you have it. Â A few random shots around our house.
I love it here.

I love the cone flowers and may use this as a puzzle picture. My heart stopped at the picture of Randy on that ladder. I figured the tire was to “break” a fall… just in case.
You all do have a LOT of grass to mow and it does take several days to do it. As for the gravel in the driveway… you should see mine. I have a huge rut/ditch/sinkhole ?? after Saturday nights rain storms. Our whole drive needs a major over hauling. I am scared my little car will disappear in the ruts one day.
Your place is beautiful and I also love it with the land, the views, the garden, etc.
God is so good… isn’t He??

You all do stay busy, don’t you? Tell Randy that you are not supposed to stand on the top of a ladder. You do need an extension ladder but one to climb that far up isn’t all that safe either. There are several windows in our house that get spiderwebs outside them but I can reach them with a broom. Wonder why they spin webs on some windows and not others. We don’t have a problem with the upstairs windows, just the lower ones downstairs. I’ve never seen a sunflower that big.

Cool pics, D . . . thanks for posting that. Oh . . . and for getting me in trouble with my mom and Aunt. I was CAREFULLY standing on the very top of my step ladder. On my toes. With one side of the ladder up on the doorway.

@Randy… It is only because me and your Aunt Mary love you that we were concerned about the ladder. But then I am a person that can’t climb past the second step on any ladder. But I do see that you were being safe by having Dylan at the bottom to ‘hold’ the ladder steady for you.
love you all…

HA!! About that ladder….funny you mentioned an extension ladder. Since last month, your dad has been PAINTING the house…the gray and the white trim. The highest place to paint is at the gable end…where our bedroom is. Now this is the last place has has not painted, and he usually borrows Steve’s VERY TALL LADDER…I can’t remember how high this ladder is, but it reaches almost up to Heaven…seriously!! He’s been wanting to go on Craig’s List to see how much a ladder this tall would cost him, but I assume he’ll be borrowing Steve’s again. When I hold this ladder at the bottom and he’s waaaay up there, my heart skips a beat or two…!!! I am soooo thankful when he’s done and comes back down to earth!!
Um, I think your dad has a ladder as tall as the one that Randy is standing on….and it tells you NOT to stand on the very top!! Oh my, that makes me soooo nervous!!! WHAT are we gonna do with our men who take such risks?!!!! I mean, I know how to dial 911….but it doesn’t mean that I WANT to!!!!
Glad to see you guys are making $$ making hay!! HA! I remember seeing those 2 sunflowers when we were there 2 weeks ago…the big one was sagged over from so much weight!! How nice that you’re using the seeds for good purposes!! Cute photo of Lainey Girl with them!! Ann made me laugh about the tire there for Randy to land on!! :) Wow, you house is sooo TALL!!!
Hope the trips had a great time at Carowinds!! Now they’re home to help mow grass…:)
Who wouldn’t love it there?!!! :)
