The big kids had a fantastic time at Out2B these last three days. We dropped them off at the church on Monday morning, and the event ended with a banquet tonight at church for all the kids and their families. The kids slept at church (boys room and girls room were WAY apart from each other and had adults staying in both rooms!), ate all their meals together – it was like a mini camp. During the mornings, the kids were in group sessions taught by Charles Covington, an incredible bible teacher who has taught at Out2B for the last three years. (He spoke at church last Sunday, so I can attest…the guy is fantastic and hillariously funny to boot).Â
During the afternoons, the kids split up into groups and went out into the community doing various service projects. What did our kids do? Let’s see, ministered to a nursing home, painted a playground, worked at a food bank, worked at a thrift store, worked at a charity that collects clothing for missionaries, helped with another church’s kids program, and watched children dropped off by moms in our church so they could have a few hours to themselves. Cool stuff, and they loved every minute of it. They kids were SO wired after the banquet, wanting to tell me everything about their time away! These few days taught them to truly look outside of themselves and serve with a servant’s heart. I’m so thankful that our church has THE best Jr. High ministry and works so hard to equip our kids with God’s truths.  Welcome home, kids :)

I know you were happy to have them back home. And they will continue to tell you and Randy all about this experience over the next few days. Was Lainey glad to see them??
The best way to serve God is in serving others. There are so many opportunities for people to do this. I love that they went to the nursing home as so many of the people there NEVER have any visitors (and kids are the best medicine for them). I know that in helping people less fortunate than they are had to have an impact on them. (it did me when I helped the homeless for several years). So many times you hear someone say, “I don’t have any talents. There is nothing I can do.” Everybody has the talent of compassion and love …. your kids just showed that. Tell them Gram is so proud of them and loves them.

Wow…love these shirts! They will be “eye catchers” if (and when) they wear them on the big NC mountain trip!!
The memories of these last few days will last a lifetime for our 4 grands!! We think this has been a wonderful opportunity for them at their age to take on responsibility like they have.
Now the house is back to normal, Donna. You said it was so quiet, not many dishes and not much laundry. Back to reality….and I know you wouldn’t have it any other way!!
You guys have a WONDERFUL trip to the NC mountains…we’ll be thinking of you white water rafting, horse back riding and just looking at the fabulous beauty of our mountains…ahhhhhh!!!!
